LOCAL police issued a very short report covering crime in the area last month to Forres Community Council.

Inspector for the Lossiemouth, Fochabers, Forres and Speyside community policing teams, Andrew Meikleham, listed antisocial behaviour, theft and motor instances, as well as highlighting some of his officers’ community engagement.

He said: “Officers have continued to focus on high- visibility patrols in and around Forres town centre, issuing parking tickets to vehicles that are illegally parked.

“Officers have also attended Dyke in response to speeding concerns. A number of motorists have been spoken to and officers will continue to conduct checks in the area.”

Road police have also been conducting proactive patrols in the area. These have resulted in the full circumstances of a report of dangerous driving being investigated.

Forres community officer, PC White, has initiated the first of many road safety events planned for the area.

Insp Meikleham said: “This started with child car seat checks being carried out at Tesco with our partners at Good Egg Safety. Over 40 child seats were checked. Issues discovered were rectified, with advice provided to parents, guardians and grandparents.

“It was a successful day of engaging with the community, as well as reinforcing road safety.”

Four incidents of assault were reported. Inquiries are ongoing.

One incident of a domestic nature was dealt with by police and reported to the Procurator Fiscal.

Two incidents of theft were also reported – one to the Procurator Fiscal, inquiries continue for the other.

Forres police station public counter is open From 9.15am-5.15pm Monday to Thursday and 9.15am-2.45pm on Fridays.
