LOCAL bowlers have held a collection for charity in memory of a member who passed away last year.

Forres Victoria Indoor Bowling Club (FVIBC) ran a weekend-long pairs competition at Edinkillie Community Hall, during which donations from the late Chris Stoves’ family, bowlers and club funds amounted to £461.21.

A club spokesperson confirmed Chris’ partner Charlie Watt chose Forres Community Woodlands Trust (FCWT) as beneficiary.

He added: “A cheque was presented at bowls on Thursday night at Forres Academy to chairman of FCWT chairman Donald Wright and secretary Gisela MacFarquhar. Charlie explained that the FCWT was chosen by club member Peggy Locke as she, along with Hazel Caldwell and Cathie Waite, enjoyed walks with Chris on the paths around Sanquhar that the charity maintains.”

Mr Wright explained that the woodlands are valued community assets.

He said: “We strive to maintain and enhance the woodlands as biodiverse habitats. Our success is dependent on the support of the community in the shape of membership fees and donations, and the participation of volunteers in maintenance activities.

“It’s gratifying to hear how much our woods are appreciated.”
