The Register, featuring research from Moira Dennis as well as photography from Paul Heartfield, features contributions from 23 former pupils and family members to offer an insight into the changes in the surrounding community.

In June 2021, Moira made an appeal for contributions from former pupils after finding a register listing every child who had attended the school over a 98 year period on a shelf just a few weeks after she had started work there.

She said: "With it listing the name of every child who had ever come into the school from 1881-1979, I thought how amazing it would be to trace a child from each decade and look at how their lives had turned out."

The book has been nominated in the memoir/autobiography category of BookBrunch's Selfies Book Awards, which recognise and reward excellence in self-publishing.

The awards are judged on both the quality of the writing and the publishing expertise displayed by the author, with judges assessing the marketing campaign as well as sales, production values and cover designs when choosing the winners.

The winner in each of the three categories will receive £750 and a profile in BookBrunch, while the shortlisted authors gain free entry to Authors HQ at this year's London Book Fair.

BookBrunch managing director Jo Henry said: "Year on year the professionalism shown by self-published authors gets more impressive, and this year I’m delighted that we’ve got a bumper crop of titles shortlisted for these prestigious awards, including four previous winners."

Expert judging panels are now reading the shortlisted titles to select their best indie-published books of 2022.

The winners will be announced on Tuesday, April 18 at 5.00pm.
