COMMUNITY centre attendees are “blitzing” their bodies after months without fitness classes.

Forres House leisure assistant, Michelle Esson, is delighted to welcome back her Body Blitz attendees and is continuing to adapt the Friday morning class to suit their individual needs.

She said: “All of the exercises are orientated around them, having been asked what they want out of the hour. I try to change the routines every week for a bit of variety and each person does as much, or as little, as they want. We typically use our own bodyweight during exercise but also kettlebells, hand weights, fitness bands or whatever else we can get our hands on!”

Moray councillor, Lorna Creswell, missed regularly attending when the centre closed for months in March.

She said: “I need a class to be part of as I’m not motivated on my own. The group is inspirational as some are awaiting hospital treatment and others are recovering from operations. I’m often sitting at a computer with very little time for exercise so this has lead to my weight increasing so I’m pleased that the classes have resumed – albeit in a limited way – and I can’t wait for Fridays now!”

Exercise mats and equipment are sanitized before and after use, then not used for another 72 hours. Social distancing is also practised.

Lorna confirmed Michelle is a great motivator and class instructor.

She said: “She demonstrates what she expects from us and calls the timing for the exercises but acknowledges our individual limitations while encouraging us.

“We tell her about our ailments so she knows what exercises to avoid.”

Michelle loves running the class and the people that attend it.

She said: “They are inspirational. They all look out for each other and see the humour in each other’s faults, but also encourage each other in a team spirited way.

“Their efforts amaze me and they aren’t shy to give everything a go. I am proud of everyone of them and I’m so glad to be back.”
