AROUND 200 people enjoyed the first German-style Octoberfest at Forres Town Hall.
Forres and District-Vienenburg and Goslar Twinning Association (FVGTA) organised the celebration of beer, sausages and music at Forres Town Hall on a wet and windy Saturday, October 21.
FVGTA chairman David MacFarquhar was thrilled to see the level of support for the event, raising the profile of the association.
“Clearly, Forres was up for it!” he said. “We hoped to break even, which I think we more than did.
“The figures aren’t available yet but any profit will be used to support our 40th anniversary event, which takes place in Forres next September.”
More than six million people attend the original Oktoberfest held annually in Munich.
Plenty of beer was available at FVGTA’s version, as well as wine and soft drinks. All attendees were offered a free first drink and German sausage.
The music was provided by Glenn Munro’s Stein Brass Oompah Band, Forres and District Pipe Band.
Mr MacFarquhar said: “Piper Cora Michan performed a spectacular Highland dance and the two bands came together to play ‘Highland Cathedral’.
“There was a splendid two-lad pipes and drums burst at the end from Bill Symon (pipes) and Tyler Smith (snare drum).”
FVGTA was created to foster friendship between the people of Forres and Vienenburg and Goslar in Lower Saxony.
Mr MacFarquhar said: “One young German lady who had recently arrived from, of all places, Munich, was blown away by the event.
“The atmosphere was terrific, largely as a result of the music but, perhaps, also to some extent as a result of the beer and the sausages.”
