Berry Burn Wind Farm awards over £100,000 to local causes

THE Berry Burn Wind Farm, which lies between Forres and Grantown on Spey, has approved grants totalling £107,636.77 helping to finance eight projects in Moray and the Highlands.
This is the highest amount awarded since the community fund's inception in 2014.
Several causes in Forres and the surrounding area benefited from fresh grants. That included £45,000 to Forres Community Council and Forres Community Sports Hub to develop an outdoor gym on the Forres Academy Campus.
Forres Heritage Trust received £30,000 to illuminate The Tolbooth, Mercat Cross and Nelson's Tower while Film Forres received £1868.80 for their community mobile cinema.
Meanwhile, Findhorn Bay Arts received a boost of £10,000 towards venue hire and marketing costs for 2022's Findhorn Bay Festival.
Two Craigellachie based causes have also been awarded grants with Moray School Bank receiving £15,000 to provide children living in poverty with school uniforms and Friends of Craigellachie Bridge getting £1917.97 to purchase maintenance equipment.
Finally, Grantown on Spey Parkrun Development Group received £2000 to set up a parkrun in the village and Friends of the Falconer Museum was awarded £1850.
Dr Jana Hutt, Chair of the Berry Burn Community Fund, said: "We were delighted to receive so many good applications and were able to award a record amount of funding to community projects. We congratulate all of the successful applicants."
The latest round of funding brings the total contribution to date from the Berry Burn Community Fund to £1,492,036 towards local causes in the area.
The closing date for applications for the next round is September 19 this year with decisions due to be made on October 24.
