RAIN failed to dampen judges’ admiration for Forres’s famous flower displays.

Beautiful Scotland adjudicators were shown around the town’s beauty spots by representatives from volunteers Forres in Bloom (FIB).

FIB secretary Sandra Maclennan said: “The town looked glorious and our judges were very effusive in their praise and surprise at what we all achieve.

“The rain suppressed some of the colour in the flowers but our judges are experienced horticulturalist who understand the effects of rain. They were impressed by the obvious community spirit and the cooperation between so many groups. There were special mentions for the Wee FIBbees garden, the technical crew and the nursery, the Beaver Bed planted by Diane, the Sunken Garden, the Sanquhar Pond Group’s work, Barry Ashby’s work on the War Nemorial, the Rose Gardens and Mosset in pristine condition, St Laurence Church bed planted and grown entirely from seed or cuttings by Bob Davidson and Bert Logie.”

The results will be announced in Dumfries on Thursday, September 12.
