ANOTHER renowned classical musician is to perform in the area for the first time as part of the Music Nairn concert series.

Baroque violinist, Rachel Podger, will present a programme titled ‘Tutta sola’ at Nairn Arts and Community Centre from 7.30pm on Friday, March 3.

Podger will showcase pieces from her most recent recording of the same name which focuses on JS Bach and other virtuoso players and composers of the time including Tartini, Vilsmayr, and Playford. She will introduce the works and their context during the concert.

Gramophone magazine said of Podger “There is probably no more inspirational musician working today” and The Times described her as “The unsurpassed British glory of the baroque violin.”

Podger established herself as a leading interpreter of the Baroque and Classical music periods. She was the first woman to be awarded the prestigious Royal Academy of Music/Kohn Foundation Bach Prize in October 2015, Gramophone Artist of the Year 2018, and Ambassador for REMA’s Early Music Day 2020. A creative programmer, she is the founder and artistic director of Brecon Baroque Festival and her ensemble, Brecon Baroque.

Advance tickets are available from Nairn Community and Arts Centre in person, by phone on 01667 453476 or via www.nairncc.co.uk priced from £15. Student tickets are £3. Tickets will also be available to purchase on the day. The venue has tiered seating and a maximum capacity of 300.
