NEW badminton sessions for over 50s are set to be provided at Moray Sports Centre in Elgin after a successful club formed in Forres.

In August 2022, Badminton Moray created an over 60s club in Forres, with more than 30 members joining in a year.

Due to the success of the club, which meets in Forres Community Centre on Mondays from 10am until 11am, Badminton Moray has decided to set up a similar class in Elgin.

The new class will run at Moray Sports Centre on Thursdays, from 2pm until 3.30pm, and will be taken by Angela Bell, Badminton Moray's head coach.

The first session will take place on September 7. Angela emphasised that sessions are open to players of all abilities.

"There is a competitiveness but also a very big social aspect," she said. "The two can go together!

"The Forres club has been successful beyond expectation. We have had several people that had basically never played before.

"Many in Forres stay behind afterwards for a chat over a cup of tea or coffee in the centre café, which will hopefully be the case in Elgin."

At the sessions, Angela will organise games and provide tips to anyone who wishes. Sessions are £5 on a pay and play basis. All equipment will be provided.

In addition to the over 50s sessions, Badminton Moray will begin offering a family badminton class at Moray Sports Centre from 6pm until 8pm on Mondays from September 4.
