A MORAY theatre group has appealed for new helpers to create weird and wonderful sets and costumes as it looks forward to putting on a pantomime once again this year.

Elgin Amateur Dramatic Society (EADS) is planning to stage Peter Pan at the year's end – and is on the lookout for people to assist with backstage tasks.

The group made the call after losing the expertise of long-standing set manager Bill Anderson and his wife, costume maker Anetta, who have moved away from the area.

EADS, which formed in 1945, currently has around 70 performance members.

Director and writer of this year's panto, Amanda Craib, said: "We need people backstage, to work on set, to paint, and people who might be interested in making unusual costumes.

"Ideally we're looking for people over the age of 18, as they might be using power tools for set construction. But anyone with an interest would be welcome.

"We have a great time when we're putting it all together."

The Buckie High School drama teacher added: "What is pantomime without set and costume?

"It's not just about people who appear on the stage. We need to have these other theatre arts in place so that it looks as good as it can."

Amanda joined the society as a teenager more than 20 years ago, rejoining after her university years.

She wrote 2019's panto, A Christmas Carol, as well as Rapunzel and Cinderella in previous years.

She added: "We're a busy group. We put on one-act plays and full-act plays as people want to do them, as well as the pantomimes."

Panto auditions and casting will take place in August.

Amanda added: "I can't wait. It's been so strange having a year out and not doing this.

"We're all just raring to go.

"Our regular audience members will know there are a lot of people who take part every year and the build-up to it is so much fun.

"Putting on the panto is just a treat, so this year it's going to be great to get back together, to see everyone again and get going with it."

Peter Pan will run at Elgin Town Hall between December 8-11.

Anyone interested can message EADS through Facebook or email elgindrama@live.co.uk.
