LOCALLY-based soldiers are helping with an infrastructure project in a village close to camp.
Army personnel from 39 Engineer Regiment are working with The Findhorn Village Conservation Company (TFVCC), repairing and replacing damaged steps to Findhorn's east beach - the task will enable members of 53 Field Squadron to carry out artisan trade training while supporting the local community.
Commanding Officer Lieutenant Colonel Birley authorised his troops' assistance.
He said: “I am delighted that we can help the community by utilising the expertise of our tradespeople.
"This project is allowing our artisan tradespeople to practice in a beautiful setting and for a worthy cause, allowing them to expand their knowledge and skills.”
Along the waterfront, steps installed in the 1980's that have been subject to storm damage and need repair/replacement.
TFVCC secretary, Cathy Low, approached the barracks asking if the engineers could help as some sets have deteriorated so much over the years that they are now dangerous and out of bounds.
TFVCC chairwoman, Christine Hunt, MBE said: "We are very grateful to the 39 Engineer Regiment for their support. Without it we would not be able to replace the steps for the benefit of everyone who loves visiting the beach at Findhorn.
“We have been applying for grants to fund this project and would like to thank everyone who is supporting us."
39 Engineer Regiment has a busy calendar with various operational deployments.
However, they do - whenever possible - offer to help the local community when it can offset insurance and contract administration.
