A local army cadet has seen his recent hard work in training rewarded.

Travis Bremner (13), from 1st Battalion the Highlander’s Forres Detachment, was presented with his Basic Army Cadet Syllabus certificate on Tuesday, May 9, progressing to the next level of his learning.

He said: “I started with the cadets about a year ago.

“I want to join the army when I’m older so it’s a good way to boost my knowledge and skills for when I do.”

He added: “I love everything about the cadets!”

Army Cadets follow a training syllabus split into five levels which cover basic to four star.

Each gets more challenging, covering 12 subjects, everything from shooting and field craft to community engagement and sport.

The syllabus plays a vital role in the cadet experience, which prepares young people for a successful life.

Cdt Bremner completed a number of tasks to achieve his basic training certificate.

He said: “I had to do a basic drill and turn out test, military knowledge test, air rifle shoot, navigation test, first aid test and a few more too!”

Cdt Bremner was presented with his certificate and badge by Forres Detachment commander, Staff Sergeant Leonard Cowieson, in front of his fellow attendees.

1st Battalion the Highlanders ACF provides challenging adventure, sporting and community activities.

Forres Detachment meets every Tuesday evening at the Drill Hall on High Street from 7-9.15pm.
