A team of four from a local primary school has qualified for the area’s quiz final next month.
Applegrove’s side emerged victorious from the Forres Associated School Group (ASG) of eight challengers, with Anderson’s placing second and Alves third during a close contest at Forres Town Hall.
Forres Rotary Club organised the event and secretary Sheena Macgillivray was impressed by the standard of competition.
She said: “All of the participating youngsters were enthusiastic and appeared to enjoy the quiz.
“The atmosphere was tense towards the finishing rounds as the four finalists were very close. The competition was very tight but in the end Applegrove were clear winners. They have a wide knowledge of everything from geography and maths to sports.”
The school quiz offers senior primary pupils experience of competing as part of a team. Each stage consists of 10 rounds of six questions which a district coordinator bases on the curriculum. Subjects range from the natural world and science to sport and music. Participating pupils work as a team.
Applegrove now go to the area final on May 4, again in Forres Town Hall, where they will meet teams from other rounds organised by Rotary clubs in Nairn, Elgin, Keith, Inverness, Buckie and Spey Valley.
The top two teams will go on to the district final at the Beach Ballroom, Aberdeen on Saturday June 17.
