YOUR town needs you!

Beautiful Scotland judges Sandy Scott and Adrian Miles are touring the local beauty spots accompanied by representatives of Forres In Bloom (FIB) on July 31 from 9am-noon before attending a lunch and speeches at the town hall.

Their route will follow Ramnee Hotel to Clovenside Road, Forres Golf Club, St Leonard's Road, Nelson Terrace, Sanquhar Road and pond, Lochview, Sanquhar Road, Orchard Road, St Catherine's Road, Invererne Road, Castlehill, High Street, Grant Park, Anderson's Primary, Museum Square and the town hall.

And FIB secretary Sandra Maclennan is appealing for help to make the area look its best on the day.

She said: "We will be grateful for any help to remove pavement weeds and litter, and sweep kerbsides, and we would like the community to let us know of any issues.

"We are grateful to all those who have already cut and raked grass which has made a huge difference."

Mr Scott recently retired from Aberdeen City Council. He enjoys the ‘In Bloom’ campaigns and has been involved for over 30 years. Mr Miles has been a gardening professional for over 20 years and has a keen interest in woodland plants.

Sandra is also a trained Beautiful Scotland Judge.

She said: "At our training sessions we have discussed the problems local authorities are having to make savings. We are aware that communities are struggling and will be looking at how they have tried to address their difficulties whilst taking in to account their capacity to do so."

FIB were recently awarded the Queen's Award for Voluntary Service, the highest award for volunteer groups, recognising the significant achievement by the community over 30 years.

The group are running a shop window competition to spot the logo for the QAVS. The prize for the winner, drawn from all correct entries, will be £30.

Sandra said: " want to support our local businesses who do so much to support us. Bringing residents to look at shop windows will make them more aware of what our centre has to offer shoppers. Come along and see for yourselves!"
