A CAMPAIGN to get a wheeled sports facility built in Forres has raised nearly £3000 in just a few weeks.
Forres Skate Park Initiative (FSPI) was awarded £2400 from the Berry Burn Community Fund and made £500 proceeds from a double bill film screening at Forres Town Hall.
FSPI development officer Shaun Moat is “over the moon” with the support.
He said: “The Berry Burn funding is critical in starting the project and appointing Alan Jones Associates (AJA) as our project management team. £2400 was the full amount we applied for with the condition that we achieve a successful Community Asset Transfer of the preferred site near Forres Squash Court and Fitness Centre at Grant Park. The turn out for the film night shows the support we have.”
AJA will help acquire further funds and prepare tendering documents.
“They will help us produce the final design,” added Shaun.
Over 150 people attended Forres Town Hall on Friday, March 10 to watch ‘Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile’ and ‘A Land for Everyone’ on Film Forres’ cinema screen. There was also a raffle of whisky bottles, skateboards and toys - much of which was donated by local businesses. Mather’s of Grant Park provided ice cream.
FSPI chairman Kev Skivington, enjoyed seeing so many people enjoy the event.
FSPI treasurer Nikk Horne confirmed the group is working with Moray Council on a Community Asset Transfer.
He said: “We have the funding from Berry Burn for phase one but we need to secure land before more funds can be released.
“We hope to have a skate park by the 2024 Summer Olympics!”
FSPI meet on the third Tuesday of the month at Moray Firth Credit Union and anyone who would like to get involved can email info@forresskatepark.org.
