An inspirational young climber who conquered the jungle to climb a mountain in ‘The Lost World’ is visiting Inverness to talk about her exploits.
Anna Taylor was part of an expedition to the Amazon Rainforest in 2019 which made the first ever free-climbing ascent of the main prow of Mount Roraima.
The 2810 metre-high table top mountain sits between Brazil, Venezuela and Guyana and is the location that inspired both Arthur Conan Doyle’s classic novel ‘The Lost World’, and the Pixar animated movie ‘Up’.
Even getting to base camp involved a 30-mile jungle trek while avoiding the more dangerous local wildlife such as snakes, tarantulas and scorpions.
Once on the wall, the climbers lived on portaledges, hanging hundreds of metres above the jungle, while the tropical climate presented regular deluges of heavy rain.
Last year Anna, who's aged 24, also completed all 83 of the UK’s ‘Classic Rock’ routes.
Carrying all her kit, she cycled 1500 miles and climbed over 10,000m during a journey that lasted 62 days and saw her climb mostly solo and without ropes.
Anna will be speaking at Eden Court as part of the Kendal Mountain Festival UK Tour, and will share the joys and moments of despair that make up these gruelling challenges.
The illustrated talk is at the Inverness venue's One Touch Theatre on May 13.
