A pupil from a local village school was runner-up in a national art contest.

In her last week of term, Alice Tisch (11) of Alves Primary was informed by her head teacher that she came joint-second in the Rotary Great Britain and Ireland Young Artist Competition with her colourful landscape painting.

Alice said: “Mr McLeman told me in front of my class. Everyone gathered around in the playground at the end of break, when Christine from the Rotary presented me with a glass trophy. I couldn’t stop smiling as I stood on the school steps for a spontaneous applause!”

The competition remit was to create artwork with the theme, ‘Sunrise and Sunset’. Alice based her painting on a photograph of a beach that her aunty in New Zealand had sent her.

“I feel encouraged and proud of my efforts,” said Alice. “I’m grateful to Christine and Sheena from the Forres Rotary for their support and kindness.”

Alice practices her art every day.

She said: “I’m currently working on a painting of a hobbit dwelling, using acrylic on canvas. I’ve been enjoying seeing the work of local artists, and chatting to them. Art will always be part of my life.”
