EVERYONE is invited to a free party this weekend to celebrate one of the town’s most historic venues.

Forres Town Hall is to host the ‘Town Hall Tales Hoolie’, a musical and visual appreciation of the building’s past, present and future, for the community it was built for.

Event coordinator, Margot Henderson, confirmed that over the past few months, the project gathered stories and memories made at the venue over its many years.

She said: “It’s been delightful to listen to stories of cherished times in the town hall. It’s also been inspiring to hear the difference activities here make to lives. Gathering these stories will help to preserve them and support the town hall, showing just how important a resource it is.”

From local dances and discos to showcase appearances from celebrities including Oscar Wilde and Giant Haystacks, Town Hall Tales has collected fascinating accounts. The project also documents the vital role the hall still plays in the life of the town. Classes, coffee mornings, social groups and support services are a lifeline for local people.

A portrait of the building has been commissioned from local artist, James Collins, to celebrate Town Hall Tales.

The Hoolie will bring together performances from Forres Pipe Band, Highland Youth Theatre, The GSE Drummers and Forres Branch of the Royal Scottish Country Dancers, along with a slideshow and soundscape of collected historic images and stories. Organisations that use the hall will also be showcasing their work, and there will be refreshments and a raffle.

Forres Area Community Trust (FACT) development manager Debbie Herron said the Town Hall Tales Hoolie takes place on Friday April 28 from 2pm.

She added: “The hoolie will be a lovely way of learning more about the importance of the building to the community of the area.”
