Traffic Scotland posted an update at 7.30am advising all drivers that the diversions put in place yesterday are still in operation.

A spokesperson for BEAR Scotland said: "The decision on when to reopen the A96 lies with Police Scotland and will depend on when they, in conjunction with the representatives from Gulf who are responsible for the maintenance of the fuel station, consider it is absolutely safe to do so."

Motorists heading Aberdeen and being diverted along the B9022 country lane towards Rothiemay.

Turning right at the crossroads onto the B9117, then turn right onto the A97, before eventually rejoining the a96 east of Huntly.

Drivers towards Moray are being sent along the same route in the opposite direction.

They are being sent via the A97 and the A944 through Alford, before eventually rejoining the A96 on the outskirts on Aberdeen.
