MEMBERS of the community aged over 50 are invited to a new weekly dining event in the centre of Forres.
St Leonard’s Church Hall Lunch Club is on every Thursday from 12.30-1.30pm, offering soup and a main course or a main course and sweet for just £5, as well as tea or coffee and water.
Church session clerk Roy Anderson confirmed chef Jim Aird is fully qualified and has vast catering experience in a variety of settings.
Roy said: “The food is all freshly prepared to the highest hygiene standards. Jim is fully qualified and has worked in care homes, schools, hotels and country estates.
“All of the meat he uses is sourced from local butchers, who have been very generous in donations to the club, as have local supermarkets.”
He added: “The lunch club provides a great opportunity for folk not only to enjoy fine home-cooked food, but to do so in the company of others while enjoying a laugh and a chat.
“It’s always good to get out of the house for a wee while, meet up with other folk and make new friends.”
Reverend Donald Prentice points out that access is via the church hall side door adjacent to Forres Town Hall.
He said: “Lunches so far have been attended by around 30 people but there is room for 40 under current safe distancing guidelines.
“Conviviality raises attendees’ spirits and the whole experience is enjoyable so we welcome more to come along.”
Chef Aird is assisted by hard-working volunteers with food preparation, serving and clearing up. New volunteers are warmly welcomed by the team.
Roy finished: “If successful, we’re keen to run another catering event on Tuesdays, perhaps soup and sandwiches with entertainment ... watch this space!”
