THE ARMY is taking on the RAF in a local football ground in aid of the UK's best known armed forces charity.

The community is invited to Mosset Park for the Remembrance match between 39 Engineer Regiment, Kinloss and RAF Lossiemouth, kicking off at 7.30pm on Wednesday, November 15 on behalf of The Royal British Legion - entrance is by donation.

A spokesperson for hosts Forres Mechanics Football Club, said: "We are pleased to offer Mosset Park in support of the Royal British Legion.

"Forres Mechanics have been associated with the military services for years and continue to forge strong links with our military neighbours.

"This charity fixture allows both teams the opportunity to compete under our new floodlights, and for the local community to support this worthwhile cause in memory of all those who sacrificed their lives for our freedom."

Forres and Nairn Welfare League club Kinloss Sappers will be captained by Cpl Wheeler who, in his final game for the team, is keen to secure a win. It will also be the last game for Sappers coach SSgt Homer, who is approaching the end of his military career.

Sappers were second in the league last season, reaching three cup finals.

Cpl Hall recently took over management of RAF Lossiemouth's team, who will be captained by AS1 Lant.

Also playing in midfield, AS1 Rawlinson will playing his last game for Lossie before moving to another RAF unit. AS1 Rawlinson has been an integral part of the team with crucial goals and even managing the side in a cup final whilst injured.

RAF Lossiemouth currently sit third in the Moray District Welfare League.

The teams met last year, with RAF Lossie taking the win.

The Mechanics spokesperson finished: "We hope the weather is kind and there is a good crowd to see two teams battle it out for bragging rights.

"We look forward to hosting this event, and to making Mosset Park available for more games in the coming years."
