A group of Soccer 7s players were treated to a tour of Mosset Park before the Mechanics game against Huntly and the start of their own season this Friday.

Can’s chairman James "Doc" Anderson also presented a sponsored trophy to Soccer 7s, emphasizing the links between the clubs over the past twenty years, and the fantasic opportunities for young footballers there are in Forres now.

"Forres Area Soccer 7s creates a foundation for young football players who wish to progress their footballing career and provide a stepping stone to more advanced development through Forres Mechanics Youth Development," he said. "Everyone at Mechanics values the important work done at Soccer 7s. The social and personal development that the children experience there is as important as the football - well done."

The Doc presented the trophy to Soccer 7s chairperson Graeme Ferguson before extending his hospitality to members of the club, inviting them to stay to watch Mechanics 1-1 draw with Huntly. The children also had an opportunity to play with legendary Cans player, Charlie Brown, and tested some of his goalkeeping skills.

Kyle Nicholson (6), who plays in the Development 4s section of Soccer 7s, was ballboy for the match and ran out on to the hallowed Mosset Park turf with Cans captain Graeme Grant.

The starlets were then inspired by former Soccer 7s players such as Ross "Chucky" Macpherson and Scotty Moore who represented Forres in chocolate ‘n’ gold during the match.

Graeme expressed his gratitude to Dr Anderson after the game. "Thank you and your colleagues for the kind donation of the trophy and for your hospitality, which was greatly appreciated by us all. The kids had a great time and really enjoyed their afternoon so our thanks are on their behalf as well for making them feel so welcome."

The Forres Areas Soccer 7s 2013 season will officially start on Friday at 5pm. The four Seniors teams will kick it off and teams from this section now include S5 and S6 players for the first time.

The other sections will play on Sunday. Development 4s for P1-P4 children will play from noon-1pm. The 14 teams in the Juniors (P3-P6) follow from 12.30-2.30pm and the four Intermediates sides (P7-S2) will play from 1.30-2.30pm.

The teams will play once-a-week at the Grant Park playing fields throughout the season which runs until November.
