Elgin City’s William Hill Leage 2 match against Spartans is postponed due to a frozen Borough Briggs pitch despite fans’ efforts to clear snow on eve of the fixture

Elgin City’s efforts to beat the weather for today’s League 2 match against Spartans have been in vain.

Borough Briggs failed an 8am pitch inspection with a heavy overnight frost making the surface unplayable.

Frozen pitch.
Frozen pitch.

Volunteers had been out on force to clear the pitch of snow on Friday afternoon but it always looked like a forlorn hope due to the evening forecast.

For the second time this season, City will now host Spartans on a Tuesday night. The teams due 1-1 at Borough Briggs in September.

The Black and Whites will now surrender top spot in League 2 if East Fife win at home to Forfar Athletic in what had effectively become their Methil side’s game in hand.

Second-placed Peterhead are also out of action with their home game against Stranraer called off.

Three Highland League games were postponed yesterday along with the entire north junior football programme.
