A spokesperson said: “They all commented on the time and effort that was taken to prepare. The parents and grandparents must be congratulated for their help and ingenuity. Such high standards were a pleasure to see and great fun was had by all.”

She added: “The kids had a brilliant time doing ridden classes, handy pony, jumping and games as well as participating in the fancy dress class!”

Four-year-old jockeys Jessica Davidson from Roseisle and Iona Griffiths of Glenferness delighted onlookers with their confidence and ability.

Jessica negotiated all eight obstacles in the Handy Pony event to come 3rd in her section.

Iona gained a worthy 2nd in the Ride and Run Games event.

Fancy Dress was the culmination of all the gymkhana events. Twenty riders and ponies took part in the parade.

Zoe Barclay took the higher age group prize, having turned Spencer into a circus elephant.

In the eight and under section, top honours went to waist-coated fox Lucy Alcott and her pony Debden Anastasia dressed as Jemima Puddleduck.

Runner up was Little Bo Peep, Ava Farquhar, who was looking for her sheep Mynex Leanda Rose.

Third was a bride and groom, Zara Lean (Miss Money Penny) and Sophie Innes (Barney Rubble) setting off up the aisle!
