AFTER several Covid outbreaks leading to matches being postponed, the Premier Sports Cup has been hit by a suspension controversy.

Kilmarnock have confirmed to the SPFL that they included Daniel Armstrong in Saturday’s Group G game against East Kilbride when the player was serving a one-match Scottish FA suspension in the competition.

Armstrong came on as a 72nd-minute substitute in a match Kilmarnock won 2-0.

As a result, the Rugby Park have been charged with breaching SPFL Rules and Regulations and the SPFL has arranged a disciplinary hearing for Thursday July 15.

Three clubs have already had to forfeit their opening group matches due to Covid concerns.

Ross County confirmed last week that a number of players and staff have tested positive for Covid-19 and they could not fulfil Saturday's tie against Forfar, which was awarded as a 3-0 win to the Station Park side.

The league also handed 3-0 wins to Stranraer and St Mirren in similar circumstances, with their scheduled opponents Morton and Dumbarton respectively affected by Covid positive tests.
