A FORRES powerlifter has smashed his own Scottish record to claim a podium place at the British Championships.

Graeme Reid (41) bench-pressed 200kg to go 15kg beyond his own personal best, which was also a national record for his weight and age category.

His lift was enough to claim second place at the British Equipped bench-press championships held at Horncastle earlier this month.

“It was a great day and given me possible selection for the GB team,” said the former Forres Academy teacher.

Reid works for Moray Council, supporting young people with a range of learning difficulties.

Last year he took part in his first international competition and won gold at the Commonwealth Powerlifting Federation Championships in Newfoundland, Canada.

He won the Masters 1 129kg body weight plus category in Canada with a lift of 180kg, just 5kg short of his previous record effort.
