ANOTHER Elgin Amateur Boxing Club female fighter has proved her punching power in the competitive ring.
Faith Ross (17) picked up her first victory by getting her hand raised after three rounds of action at the recent Alloa Boxing club show.
The Forres boxer defeated home favourite Demi-Lee Brand in a 65kg bout in Clackmannanshire to celebrate her maiden competition success.
Ross had been unfortunate to be just on the wrong end of judges' verdicts in previous bouts.
But such were her club's belief in her talents, she was put forward for this year's Scottish Novice Championships at the Ravenscraig Regional Sports Centre in Motherwell.
The Moray teenager was matched up with a suitable opponent in her weight division in a straight final where she battled bravely but just lost out on the dreaded 3-2 split decision of the judges.
Elgin ABC head coach Paul Gordon was delighted to see Ross finally gain a richly deserved victory at Alloa.
"Faith started at the female class and moved on to the regular boxing classes," he said.
"Her losses came when she boxed the same girl twice, once in Elgin and the other time five months later in Keith.
"In the novices, many thought she was unlucky not to get her hand raised in the finals having to settle with silver on a 3/2 split.
"You can imagine the mental strength of having three losses on the bounce - and then the joy at winning.
