LONG-DISTANCE runners are set to get their starting orders in a brand new race in Forres on Saturday.

The Moray Coastal Trail 50, which will set off from Grant Park for Cullen at 7am, is a 50-mile ultramarathon – which has been added to the Moray Way Ultras Race Series this year.

More than 100 runners, mostly from across Scotland, are signed up for the run – which will go through Findhorn, Burghead, Hopeman Lossiemouth and Buckie before ending in Cullen.

Race director Kyle Greig hopes the run can help the local hospitality industry after a difficult spell during the coronavirus pandemic.

“We are still operating under Covid-19 guidelines, which adds a challenge, but it’s going to be quite exciting,” he said.

“There is a real mix of people from around Scotland competing.

“We are bringing people back to Moray and lots of them are staying in hotels.”
