Moray Marathon set to offer new 20-mile race option as 2025 event set to return next month

There is set to be a new challenge for runners in a popular marathon due to take place next month.

The Moray Marathon returns to Elgin on April 13, this time with the addition of a 20-mile race in the programme.

Amy and John said: “ We brought the marathon back in 2024 to give north-east runners a chance to do a springtime marathon locally without having to enter a ballot or travel a long distance to a bigger city marathon like London or Manchester.

“That first race was a great success and brought lots of favourable comments from runners and marathoners of all abilities. We are looking to build on that success and this year we have also included a 20-mile race, the only one in the north of Scotland.”

The courses are accurately measured, flat and fast and offer good potential for experienced runners to achieve a personal best time as well as providing a very supportive environment for novice runners and those doing their first marathon.

The race has chip timing, and finishing times will be accepted as a qualifying time for all major marathons that give entries via the Good For Age system.

It then heads back to Morriston where there will be a family friendly finish area to cheer the runners in as they complete their race.

Amy and John added “ Our aim is that Chilled Running puts on events that are easy to access, local and competitive for runners in the North of Scotland.

“While the Moray Marathon is our first race we are looking to expand our races by adding a 10k race, a 10 mile race and eventually to have events front 5 km right through to Track Ultramarathons.”
