Lossiemouth winning run halted, Brechin City regain Highland League top spot and Buckie Thistle stopper sent off for third time this season





The Highland League leadership changed hands yet again, and the champions lost again.

Buckie Thistle suffered the tenth defeat of their title defence when they went down 2-0 at Banks o’ Dee.

Iain Vigurs and Liam Duell netted for Dee, who have picked up nine wins and a draw in their last 11 league games to keep them firmly in the title mix.

Buckie’s sore afternoon was compounded when former Elgin City defender Darryl McHardy was red-carded for the third time this season in stoppage time.

Brechin City moved into top spot ahead of Brora Rangers, whose match at Huntly was postponed.

City put a stop to Clach’s resurgent run with a 4-2 win in Inverness.

James Anderson made it eight goals in his last six outings for Clach with a double, his first goal cancelling out Brad McKay’s Brechin opener to make it 1-1 at the break.

Dayle Robertson struck the post with a Brechin penalty late in the half, but the visitors came good with Lewis Milne and Robertson netting two in two minutes early in the second half.

Robertson made it 4-1 before Anderson notched a consolation.

Lossiemouth’s Shaun Morrison scored for the third game running but the Coasters couldn’t make it three wins on the spin as they went down 3-1 at Nairn County.

All the goals came in the second half with Scott Lisle puttimng nairn ahead only for Cameron to level ten minutes later.

Andrew Greig won it for County with a brace on 70 and 90 minutes.

Forres Mechanics went down 3-1 at a Fraserburgh side unbeaten in the league since September.

Fraser Mackie gave Broch a half time lead and Jamie Beagrie’s 53rd minute goal made it 2-0 before Shaun Sutherland pulled one back for Cans.

Scott Barbour clinched victory for the Bellslea outfit near the end.

Jay Halliday’s first half strike earned Inverurie Locos a 1-0 win over Formartine United at Harlaw Park.

And Turriff United made it seven wins and a draw in their last eight outings with a 3-0 success at home to Wick Academy.

Reece McKeown scored his tenth goal in his last nine games while Murray Cormack and Glen Donald also scored for The Haughs side.

As well as the Huntly game being off, Deveronvale’s visit to Rothes and Keith’s home clash with Strathspey Thistle were ruled out by frozen parks.
