National bronze for Findhorn sailing stars
A PAIR of young seafarers from Findhorn placed third from 64 competitors in the Royal Yachting Association Youth Nationals competition.
Dinghy stars, Gillies Munro and Daniel Harris, both 17, competed against Britain’s top sailors on the South Coast of England as they bid to land gold over five days of the Easter break.
The Royal Findhorn Yacht Club members previously competed at the 2013 event at Largs Sailing Club, finishing 11th. However, with their high performance 29er skiff, the sailors racked up an impressive run of results since, including a hard-thought bronze medal at the recent Eurocup event in Barcelona, meriting their position as hot contenders for a medal at the Youth Nationals.
"Royal Findhorn Yacht Club are immensely proud to have Gillies and Daniel as members," said rear commodore, Ian Ellis.
"They are extremely talented sailors who we believe do not get the recognition that they deserve."
The Youth Nationals took place on the same waters used for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
The event doubles is also a selection event for the ISAF Youth Sailing World Championships, this year taking place in Tavira, Portugal, in July.
