Highland League round-up: Forres Mechanics thrash Nairn County as win moves Lossiemouth clear of bottom
Forres Mechanics hammered Nairn County 5-1 at Station Park to move above their local rivals in the Highland League table.
It was goalless at half-time, before a scrambled opener, with no clear goal scorer, was added to by Shaun Sutherland’s header for a 2-0 Forres lead.
Calum Frame grabbed a quickfire hat-trick as the Can-Cans went on to record a 5-1 victory.
Lossiemouth won the big match at the bottom end of the table - defeating bottom club Strathspey Thistle to move four points clear of the foot of the Highland League.
Lewis McAndrew’s 10th-minute strike was added to by Shaun Cameron’s goal shortly after half-time as Lossie recorded a first win in nearly four months.
Rothes remain just a point above Strathspey at the foot of the table as Huntly hammered them 6-1 at Mackessack Park.
Ross Logan scored Rothes’ goal on the day - but that point they were 4-0 down approaching the hour mark.
Huntly’s goals were scored by Angus Grant (x2), Kai Watson, Sam Robertson, Ross Still and James Connelly.
Clachnacuddin hammered Deveronvale 7-0 at Grant Street Park in Inverness to keep themselves firmly in the picture at the top end of the table.
Goals from James Anderson and Andy Macrae had the Inverness side 2-0 up at half-time.
That lead was added to in the second period by Scott Davidson (x2), Jack Davison, Rorie Macleod and Troy Cooper for a huge win.
Keith were beaten 3-1 at home by Formartine United. Jordan Lynch grabbed the Maroons’ goal, while Adam Emslie, Scott Lisle and Julian Wade scored for the away side.
Brora Rangers kept the pressure on Brechin City - who were in Scottish Cup action against Hearts last night, losing 4-1 at Glebe Park - by winning 3-2 late on against Inverurie Loco Works.
Banks O’ Dee also kept themselves in the running for the title with a 4-0 win over Wick Academy.
