Highland League round-up - Moray derby defeat for Forres Mechanics at Buckie Thistle

Forres Mechanics were beaten 2-0 by Moray rivals Buckie Thistle at Victoria Park.

Two goals in as many first-half minutes was enough for the Jags to build on a 3-1 Scottish Cup success at Huntly and leapfrog the Cans into the top half.

Josh Peters opened the scoring on 31 minutes and Marcus Goodall doubled the lead minutes later. The Jags were rarely troubled as they saw out the game.

Keith were surprise 2-0 winners at Nairn County - moving up to third bottom thanks to a first-half double from Mikey Ironside.

That result pushed Lossiemouth down to second bottom - but the Coasters will be more than satisfied with their afternoon’s work after drawing 1-1 at Turriff United.

Shaun Cameron’s 79th minute goal grabbed a point for Lossie after Glen Donald had given Turriff the lead.

Rothes - the fifth and final Moray team in action - were beaten 5-1 at home by Formartine United and remain firmly rooted to the bottom of the table, now six points behind Lossie.

Ruairi Duncan’s penalty levelled the scores for the Speysiders after Glenn Murison’s opener - but Murison quickly restored the away side’s lead.

Second half strikes from Tyler Mykyta, Scott Adams and Michael Dangana wrapped up a comfortable Formartine win.

That result moves Formartine up to second - behind only Brora Rangers, who were 4-2 winners at Deveronvale.

Goals from Alex Cooper, James Wallace and Mark Nicolson had Brora 3-0 up at half-time, but Ryan Park and Jamie Maclellan made it 3-2 within seven minutes of the restart. Jordan MacRae got Brora over the line on 83 minutes.

Huntly surprised North Cup finalists Clachnacuddin with a 1-0 win in Inverness. Angus Grant got the only goal of the game for the Black and Whites.

There was a clash of two in-form teams in Aberdeen as Banks o’ Dee hosted league leaders Fraserburgh - and it was the home side who came from behind to end their visitors’ eight-match win streak and knock them off top spot.

The Broch went ahead on 49 minutes through Paul Young, but, after an equaliser from Magnus Watson, Liam Duell’s double secured a win for the Dee.

Brechin City remain well in the title race after edging to a 2-1 win at struggling Inverurie Locos. Ben Armour and Mitchell Findlay scored for Brechin, either side of an Ethan Cairns goal for Locos.

Finally, Wick Academy picked up all three points in stoppage time to defeat Strathspey Thistle.

Euan Kennedy gave Wick the lead at half-time, before Josh Race levelled for the Jags. Louis Hancock’s 93rd minute winner secured Wick’s first home win of the season.
