Forres Bowling Club hosts Caitlan Dustan memorial triples tournament in tribute to teenage bowler
A memorial tournament at Forres Bowling Club drew an entry from 39 members to conclude the competitive outdoor season.
The Caitlin Dustan Triples is held in memory of a young Forres bowler who passed away in 2022, with all proceeds from the day going to the Quarriers charity.
The victors this year, despite suffering a heavy 9-1 defeat in their third set, were Finn Mackie (in his first season), Carol McRitchie and Sam Morrison. They won nine and drew one of their dozen games.
A great second half performance saw Ann MacPherson, Annie Griffiths (also in her first season) and Malcolm Swinswood claim runners-up spot.
Collecting the wooden spoons for coming last were Marion Felton, Marjory McCarthy and, going from hero to zero, Skibo McKenzie (one of last season's winners).
Scores: S Morrison 19pts, 46 shots; M Swinswood 17, 59; B Caldwell 15, 46; J Matthews 14, 47; D Dobbs 14, 41; P Coutts 13, 51; A Coutts 12, 53; A Porter 11, 41; J Ross 10, 41; R McRitchie 9, 36 (-15); D Foss 9, 36 (-20); D Sobey 7, 37; A McKenzie 6, 30.
A rain interrupted Monday hat-night was won by Morag Ritchie, Lesley Mackintosh and Henry Davidson. They lost their first set on the toss, but came good in the next one.
Stuart Robertson was left to rue losing seven shots over two first set ends. Louise Morris had a very mixed evening, while losing a four at the last killed Sandy Burgess' hopes to finishing ahead.
Ann MacPherson and Peggy Locke were the outstanding team at Wednesday's afternoon hat. They scored five at the eighth end, going on to win all four sets.
Despite winning only seven of the sixteen ends, David Foss finished in second place. Derek Crosby improved towards the end after trailing by half a dozen shots going into the final set.
Although they lost their final set, Annie Griffiths and Morag Ritchie had already done enough to win Thursday's moving hat-night. They were 7-1 up after the initial three ends.
Except for the toss of a coin, Mary Sobey was unbeaten in her three low-scoring sets. Skibo McKenzie never got a move all evening. He left himself too much to do after trailing 8-1 at half-time.
