Former Keith footballer Luke Emmett responding to treatment after collapsing with breathing issues while playing North Region Junior match for Culter at Ellon United

A junior football match was abandoned after a player developed breathing issues and had to be taken to hospital.

Former Keith defender Luke Emmett is said to be responding to treatment in Aberdeen Royal Infirmary after falling ill while playing for Culter in a North Region Premier League match at Ellon United.

The 24-year-old began his career with Aberdeen under-17s, later playing for Cove Rangers and Formartine United before having a spell with Keith in the Highland League.

He moved from Keith to Banks o’ Dee, who he left last September to join Culter.

A Culter FC statement said: “Today during our game with Ellon United JFC, Luke Emmett collapsed due to breathing issues.

“Luke required an ambulance and is now in hospital.

“Luke is now more responsive with tests ongoing.

“We would like to thank Ellon United for their cooperation. It was warming to see two teams coming together in a difficult moment to support Luke.

“Football really means nothing when things like today occur. We’re all with you Luke.”
