Macleod beat Stephen Hepburn in a 4-1 final at the Ian Mackenzie Joinery-sponsored event at The New Club in Elgin last Sunday (May 15).

Macleod's win made him the first multiple winner of the competition, thwarting 2021 champion Hepburn's two-in-a-row quest.

Having the run of the balls for most of the showdown, Macleod quickly established a 3-0 lead as Hepburn struggled to make an impact.

In a dramatic penultimate frame, however, Hepburn showed his grit by taking the frame with a steely 34-point clearance.

In the end Macleod's assault proved too much, winning the best of seven match 4-1 with a fluid 59 break.

Macleod became the first two-time winner after showing punishing form in previous games, including back-to-back 49, 66, 76 and 94 breaks against Forres player Tommy Smith.

The tough Singles contest, ongoing since February, saw 22 entrants fighting it out in high-standard matches.

Both Macleod and Hepburn impressed met during their semi finals, running out 4-1 winners.

In the quarter finals, previous finalist James McKenzie (Forres) bested Michael McCulloch 4-1, seeing him progress to the second semi final to face reigning champion Stephen Hepburn (Forres Legion) who dispatched Ferguson 4-0.

The last 16 also offered up some extremely tight matches, notably Simon Bremner (Forres Legion) defeated former champion Ali McDonald (Elgin Ex Service) by a 4-3 scoreline whilst Roy Muckart (The 147 Club) also nicked the final frame decider against Gary Pope (Elgin Ex Service).

The early rounds of the competition saw some close matches with Adam Ferguson (Forres Legion) clinching a deciding frame victory vs teammate Martin Cumming (Forres Legion).

Adam Macleod (The New Club 1) also defeated Neil Owen (The New Club 1) in the same way – both matches finished 4-3.
