A crowd of around 250 watched the two welfare sides battle it out to a 1-1 draw, before the Sappers edged out penalty kicks 5-4.

The Sappers started the game on the front foot and took the lead after 20 minutes. Reis Gerrard in the Carlton goal fumbled a cross and it was knocked against the bar and in from close range.

But the Carlton levelled the game with just under 20 minutes to go through Gregor Ewan. After neat interplay, the ball was fired across goal and Ewan arrived at the back post to tap in.

Charlie Brown had the chance to win the game with three minutes to go, but was pulled back when through one on one by the Sappers keeper – who was only booked for the foul.

And so it went to spot-kicks, with the Sappers emerging victorious, scoring all of their penalties for a narrow success.

After the match, the post season awards were handed out.

Stewart McLaren of Elgin Thistle won top goal scorer, Matty McKenna of Nairn side Westerlea won player of the year and Forres youngster Connor McCartney, of Carlton, won young player of the year.

In the league, Elgin Thistle were awarded the last game of the season and finished second in the table – pushing the Sappers down to third place.

Mosset Tavern finished fourth in the league, one place ahead of Forres rivals Carlton.
