Moray boxer Fraser Wilkinson set for title fight in Aberdeen against Dean Sutherland
A boxer is set for his biggest sporting night as two champions collide in a title fight.
Moray’s Fraser Wilkinson (10-1) will take on Dean Sutherland in a Super-Welterweight Commonwealth Title Eliminator at Aberdeen’s Beach Ballroom on November 30.
Aberdeen-based Sutherland, who is 18-1, will be defending his Celtic title at the Northern Sporting Club event.
The winner will take on either Sam Gilley or Louis Greene for the BbboC Celtic Title and British and Commenwealth Final Title Eliminator
The news was confirmed at a press conference at Glasgow’s Crowne Plaza this afternoon.
However, Hopeman’s Wilkinson - who used to live in Forres - has known about the fight since his last bout.
Speaking at the press conference, he said: “Before my last fight, Sam (promoter Kynoch) took me into the changing room and said ‘Do you want to fight Dean Sutherland?’ and my answer was yes.
“I want to be a Celtic champion and I want to do it the traditional route. We have two Scottish titles.
“I’ve taken a loss and Dean has taken a loss. It is time to see who is going to see who is going to suck it up and win on November 30th.”
The fact that the fight will give the winner a chance of a British title adds more than just an extra edge - but Wilkinson is taking the first fight first.
He added: “It’s motivating, but it’s totally irrelevant. At the end of the day, I’ve got to get to the top of the leaderboard and beating Dean is going to do that.”
The bout’s undercard is starting to take shape. Ben Bartlett and Rico Marinovic will clash, with Gregor McPherson, Shelley MacDonald and Adian Williamson also set to be involved.
