Elgin City striker Olly McDonald speaks about scoring his first goal for Borough Briggs club to trigger stunning late comeback for William Hill League 2 victory over Bonnyrigg Rose

Elgin City’s supersub hopes his first goal for the club will be followed by many more.

Olly McDonald came on as sub with ten minutes to go and quickly netted his maiden strike for the Black and Whites to trigger their late comeback against Bonnyrigg Rose.

A City team with Kilmarnock loan goalkeeper Aidan Glavin and winger Kian Leslie making their debuts, trailed 1-0 in the 88th minute but turned it around with McDonald’s equaliser, followed by a stoppage time winner from Russell Dingwall.

“It’s something we spoke about before the game. We are playing at home and people don’t like coming up to Elgin,” said McDonald.

City have won both home matches in League 2 this season and remain unbeaten after five matches played, with a chance to go second on Tuesday night.

The Moray club’s game in hand is at home to Spartans in midweek and they can climb above second-placed East Fife with a win over the Edinburgh men.

McDonald said by scoring goals like he did on Saturday, he can press for a starting place.

He has mainly been restricted to substitute duties so far but gave manager Allan Hale something to think about with his crucial intervention on Saturday.

“I came on and made an impact, and I like scoring goals,” he said. “I’ve done it everywhere I’ve went.”
