The restart to the Highland League could face delay due to Scottish Government restrictions being extended until the end of February.

The SHFL are waiting to hear the latest update from the Scottish Football Association about when lower league football can restart.

Divisions from League One below in Scotland are suspended due to the impact of Covid-19 across the country.

Representatives from Highland League clubs have held a series of meetings to discuss what impact any further delay will have on the season.

But SHFL secretary Rod Houston says they will need to figure out how the season can be completed to coincide with the League Two play-offs at the end of the regular campaign.

“We still remain confident that we can complete this season," he said.

“The tricky bit will be completing it in a way in time for the pyramid play-offs.

“But we can take our time and are happy to do that.

“We have to see how the balance goes across all of the leagues as we are part of the pyramid system.”

The Highland League has been reduced to 15 games this season as a result of the campaign starting on November 28.

However, the most matches any club in the league has been able to play so far is three.

The Scottish Cup has also been suspended until further notice, while League One and Two clubs presented a proposal to the Scottish FA to restart their campaigns.
