The Highland League management committee met on Wednesday night to discuss steps towards getting their next campaign up-and-running.

The outcome of the meeting was to start the season on Saturday, November 28 and allow clubs to carry out the work required for bringing supporters back into their stadiums.

A league spokesperson said: "This is in keeping with its decision to pause the start of the season at a meeting on 28th September.

"The decision also reflects improved prospects for spectators being admitted to matches."

At this stage it is unclear if all grounds will be allowed to house spectators on the projected start date for the campaign.

The Scottish Government's new five-tiered system of Covid-19 restrictions placed Moray and Highland in tier 1, which would allow spectators to enter grounds in limited numbers.

But Deveronvale, Huntly, Turriff, Inverurie, Formartine and Fraserburgh lie in tier 2 territory and at present would not be allowed to bring fans in.

The league added: "Many details have to be sorted out over the next three weeks, including a revised fixture list.

"The fixtures and other matchday arrangements will be published as soon as is feasible."
