TWO Forres Academy students have been selected for the Scottish cheerleading squad.
Issie Standring (15) and Jessica Nicol (13) are competing at the ECU European Cheerleading Championships in Helsinki this month as part of Team Scotland - Junior Lyrical.
“I’m excited to have been chosen,” said Issie.
“I feel thrilled that all my hard work and dedication has paid off,” added Jessica.
Both girls train with Team Love Cheer (TLC) Forres, part of a wider group of cheer and dance Teams led by head coach, Kerri Love.
The other branches are TLC Inverness (HQ), TLC Aviemore and TLC Dingwall.
Issie for has been with TLC Forres for four years and Jessica for eight.
They are dedicated athletes; Issie did dance, gymnastics and Cheer classes for six years in her former home town, Chester; Jessica also enjoys local dance classes with June Roy School of Dance in Elgin.
They support all of their team mates at all competitions at all levels (Minis, Youth, Juniors and Lyrical), helping with hair, makeup, calming nerves and encouraging all the teams while they perform.
Issie and Jessica also help out the Tiny and Mini TLC cheerleaders (four to nine-year-olds) at their classes.
They are particularly looking forward to working with coach Brodie Love, Kerri’s teenage daughter, who choreographed the national team’s routine.
The ECU European Cheerleading Championships are on June 30 and July 1 at Helsinki Ice Hall.
The Forres girls are looking for donations to help pay for travel, accommodation and team kit.
