IT was a first step on the return to the new normal for Forres Mechanics under-11 squad at Roysvale Park on Sunday.
The club’s youngest group got back in training following the recent relaxation of Covid restrictions for their age band.
Strict social distancing and hand-cleansing protocols were still in place for the session, but the smiles suggested that the kids were delighted to be on the pitch once again.
After a reminder to the squad about the importance of following Covid rules, coaches Steve Hamilton and Ross McLeod put the boys through a series of skills and fitness drills and routines.
They supported by Mechanics under-15 stalwarts, Adam Souter and Lewis Mackenzie who are undertaking their Duke of Edinburgh awards.
Head of youth coaching, Allan Frisken, took the squad’s goalkeepers for a special session and said: “It is just great to see the lads all back and enjoying themselves.
"The last three months have been difficult for us all, but there is now a way forward for all of our squads providing we all stick to the rules and keep down the incidence of the virus.
We have not stood still in the youth development over the last few months. We have just secured the use of Kinloss all-weather pitch for some training and matches, so many thanks to the army for their cooperation and support of local sport.
"We also have high hopes of improving our training options in the town and would expect to be able to make an announcement about this in the near future."
