FOUR Forres Mechanics players have penned extended contracts to keep them at Mosset Park for the next Highland League season - and beyond

Cans' manager Charlie Rowley has signed Ross Macpherson, Martin Groat and Callum Johnston on two-year contract extensions, and veteran Simon Allan has signed on for another year.

Rowley revealed last week that if a Highland League season did start this year, his club would definitely be a part of it following their year out during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic.

He will soon sign ex-Ross County defender Ruari Fraser (20) on a two-year deal from Formartine United.

The Cans' boss said all but two of his squad from their last campaign in 2019-20 have agreed to return to the club next term.

And he has secured four vital players on longer contracts.

Long-serving defender Allan, who turns 36 this summer, had been contemplating retirement from football, but has been persuaded to take on at least one more season.

Both he and Macpherson, who celebrated his 34th birthday at the weekend, have had testimonials at Mechanics and become favourites with the Mosset Park loyal over the years.

Groat (26) joined Forres from Strathspey in 2016, while attacker Johnston (21) stepped up from the ranks of amateur football two years ago.
