Forres gymnasts go for gold

FORRES gymnasts had success at a recent competition in Inverurie.

Clubs from across the north of Scotland competed in the North District Novice and Intermediate Championships at the Garioch Sports Centre.

In the beginners 10/11 years category, Isla Esson won silver for her floor routing and finished sixth place overall while Grace Rennie finished fourth on floor and sixth on vault with a fourth placed overall finish.

Ellie Mitchell finished fifth on floor, sixth on vault and fifth overall.

Isla, Grace, Ellie and Millie Nichols lifted the team gold title for their age group.

In the 12+ beginners category Mya Cameron won bronze for her floor routing and finished fourth overall.

In the intermediate category, Carli Deacon took gold for her floor and vault routine and was crowned 8/9 intermediate champion.

Iris Whitton took silver for vault in the 10/11 age group.

In the 12+ category Libby Gardiner won silver on vault and also took overall silver, while Faye Nichols finished sixth on vault.

Faye, Libby and Pollaidh Astley won team bronze.

Forres Gymnastics Club head coach Patsy Fraser-Mackenzie said: "It was a good days competition with clubs from Shetland to Stonehaven taking part.

"The club coaches were pleased with the gymnastics' effort and are all looking forward to a rest in the holidays before the next competition at Balmoor Gymnastic Club in Peterhead in May."
