For 13-year-old rising star Alana Coutts faced a tough challenge against her mother Lesley, the five-time winner and current holder.

What followed was an excellent contest between a champion and a champion in the making.

Lesley won the initial two ends, but four ends later found herself 8-3 down and soon the score moved to 14-9 in favour of the younger Coutts.

Experience looked to have taken over as Lesley went 16-15 ahead, but the youngster fought back to lead 18-17.

Three ends later mother finally put her daughter to bed, but it has likely just postponed the inevitable.

Davie Petrie is into the last eight of the men's championship after putting the 2014 champion, John Ross out.

Petrie took an early 5-0 lead, but soon found himself 7-5 behind with Ross still leading 14-11 after 16 ends.

The next eight shots went Petrie's way but Ross wasn't for giving up though, and he pulled it back to 18-19 before Petrie finished it, and now faces faces Derek Sobey or Brian Caldwell next.

Roy Anderson and Dean Dobbs also had an excellent tie.

A maximum at the fifth end put Anderson 7-3 ahead, but this was soon pegged back. Things remained fairly level until Dobbs hit a four of his own at the sixteenth end.

Anderson tried to fight back but succumbed 21-16. His conqueror will now play Brian Riddell.

The 2018 men's champion, John Matthews, faces a quarter-final clash with Sam Morrison after defeating Charlie Watt.

Matthews was 17-4 up and coasting before Watt put a run together to reach double figures.

Morrison has already put the holder, Paul Coutts, out of the championship.
