Carisbrooke's unbeaten league start ended with a 3-2 defeat at Elgin new boys The Vikings, who were also unbeaten.

But a depleted Vikings side crashed 7-0 to Mosset Tavern in the preliminary round of the Top Car Cup on Tuesday.

On the same night, league leaders Elgin Thistle's perfect start to the campaign was halted by a 3-2 loss at 2019 league winners Westerlea.

Last Friday's league games saw Elgin Caledonian get off the mark as a Ryan Cowie hat-trick earned a 3-1 derby win over Elgin Albion, whose scorer was Neil Robertson.

The big game of the night put two 100 per cent records on the line as The Vikings locked horns with Carisbrooke and won 3-2, helped by goals from Thomas Kielbasa (pen), Ethan Marini and Lukasz Wawrzyniak.

The league's top scorer Jordan Robertson netted a hat-trick in Mosset's 5-1 success over Westerlea, team-mate Cameron Grant netting twice and Joe Bain replying for the Nairn visitors.

Elgin Thistle made it five league wins out of five as Steven Shand 2, Stewart McLaren, Kieran Hyndman, Zak Mylchreest and an own goal proved too much for hosts FC Elgin, who had led from a Charlie Fox spot kick.

Kinloss Sappers went second with a 7-0 win at Nairn United - scorers were Duncan Menzies 3, Scott Tomson 2, Lewis Forshaw and Aidan Milnes.

Three days later the same two teams met at the same Nairn venue in the Top Car Cup and produced the same result.

This time Jon Mallinson, Duncan Menzies, Gavin Damba, Aaron Camplin 3 and James Thomas got the seven goals for the Army side.

Tuesday's night of shocks began with news that Mosset had scored seven without reply against the previously unblemished Vikings, who were missing some regulars.

This time top scorer Robertson netted just two and was put in the shade by Fraser Thom's treble, while Dale McLennan and David Bromley also found the net.

Westerlea produced their best result of the season to end Elgin Thistle's winning run.

Matty McKenna, Gavin Chisholm and Danny Gresham had the Nairn men 3-0 up before Stewart McLaren (pen) and Kieran Kyndman pulled two back.

Westerlea now progress to tomorrow night's last-eight tie against Caberfeidh, and the Mosset will host Elgin Caledonian on the same night.

Carisbrooke meet FC Elgin looking to secure a semi spot and a match against Kinloss, who have already won through as their scheduled opponents Elgin Albion forfeited their place in the tournament.
