Elgin City’s proud unbeaten William Hill League 2 record ends at Bonnyrigg Rose as Black and Whites’ team missing eight regulars go down

Elgin City’s undefeated run in League 2 was ended by a 2-0 defeat at Bonnyrigg Rose.

The injury-hit Black and Whites had won six and drawn five of their 11 games so far but finally came a cropper at New Dundas Park on Saturday.

City had seven players out injured and midfielder Russell Dingwall’s controversial red card in the 1-0 win over Stranraer a week earlier ruled him out through suspension.

Former City player Angus Mailer did some of the damage to his old club by netting a volley after 14 minutes for the opening goal.

And City’s fate was effectively sealed by a second goal scored by Mark Ferrie on 72 minutes, after Elgin keeper Aidan Glavin parried Bradley Barrett’s shot.

City slipped from second to third place as a result of their defeat, with leaders East Fife also losing 2-1 at home to Stranraer.

Peterhead took over at the top after a 3-2 win at Stirling Albion.
