Celtic fright in 5-2 Scottish League Cup win over Falkirk was provided by former Elgin City and Keith players

Two products of north football were on the scoresheet as Scottish champions Celtic were given a fright in the League Cup.

The Hoops were taking on Falkirk in the tournament’s quarter final at Parkhead on Sunday - and found themselves 2-1 behind at half-time thanks to goals from Ross MacIver and Finn Yeats.

Yeats was playing Highland League football for Keith as recently as 2022, with his brother still playing in the league for Turriff United.

MacIver will be remembered by Elgin City fans for his contribution during the 2018-19 season, where he played 15 times in the league and notched four goals.

His spell at City was on loan from Ross County. He has since played for Greenock Morton, Motherwell, Partick Thistle and Alloa Athletic and joined Falkirk in 2023. MacIver’s goal at Parkhead was a particularly noteworthy effort from 25 yards.

Celtic went onto win the match 5-2 thanks to doubles from Adam Idah and Nicolas Kühn after the 70th minute.

However, both MacIver and Yeats left the park with the score 2-1 to the Bairns.
