Forres Victoria Indoor Bowling Club has been awarded funding for hall hire

A sports group has been awarded nearly £1000 by a fund aimed at providing for older people in the community.

Forres Victoria Indoor Bowling Club (IBC) is using £819 from the Auchernack Trust Fund towards the hire of Forres House Community Centre’s sports hall.

Club secretary, Anne McIntosh, confirmed the trust has previously helped fund the hire, as well as pay for new bowling carpets to replace worn out ones they had.

She said: “This money will be used to hire the sports hall every Thursday from 10am-noon for the next six months.

“The club is going from strength-to-strength but new members are always welcome to come along and try. No equipment is necessary, only indoor footwear.”

We currently have 16-18 regular players on Thursdays. This number generally increases by about five or six during the winter months when the outdoor bowling season finishes.

“We provide a warm friendly environment,” said Anne, “Older people enjoy gentle exercise and making new friends.

“Auchernack's funding has helped us bring elderly people together in a central location where they can have some fun.

“We are very grateful.”
